Shopify points learners to the Dev Docs, the Partner Help Center and the Dev Community forums. Keep those open while you learn. This course adds a clear order of lessons and checks on every task. More details are in our post on the closure. To learn it all from free resources, follow the free 6-week plan.

How it works

You write the code. Every task is checked.

sections/product-information.liquid

- {{ product.price }}

+ {{ product.price | money }}

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe

1899$18.99

You write the code

You work as the new developer at a made-up coffee company. Each lesson is a task from the team. You write Liquid and the store changes next to your code.

<p class="price" style="color: red">
  {{ product.price }}
</p>

2 changes requested

  • Pipe the price through the money filter: {{ product.price | money }}. Otherwise it renders as 1899 instead of $18.99.
  • Avoid inline style="..." attributes: production themes use CSS classes so styles stay overridable and themeable.

Your code is checked

Not only "does it work". The checks also catch inline styles, prices without the money filter and other things a senior developer would send back.

You learn to review AI code

Some lessons give you code an AI wrote and ask: is it good enough to use? Clients pay developers to check this.

FAQ

Questions from Academy learners

When does Shopify Academy close?

Shopify says Academy will be sunset on October 29, 2026. Purchases are refunded to the original payment method on a rolling basis from October 1, all completed by October 31, 2026. For paid exams no action is needed from you.

What happens to my Academy badges and credentials?

Earned badges stay visible through the end of 2027, and credentials stay valid until January 1, 2028. After that the credential links on your profiles stop working. Certifications are no longer a Partner Program tier requirement, and Partner tiers are unaffected.

Is learnshopify.dev part of Shopify?

No. learnshopify.dev is an independent course, not affiliated with Shopify Inc. Its module certificates are its own record that you did the work, not a Shopify credential.

What is free?

Module 1 of the theme course is free. The first 3 lessons need no account. The rest of Module 1 needs a free account, no card. The first 15 lessons of the app path are free too. Pro opens everything for $29 a month or $290 a year, and you can get a refund within 14 days.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for the theme course. You write the code in your browser and the store updates next to it. The app path runs on your own computer, with the Shopify CLI and a free development store, because that is where apps are built.

Your first task is waiting.

Two bugs on a product page. Fix them in the browser and watch the store change.
